FAQs

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes. I am accepting new individual, couple, and family clients at this time. Click the “Get Started” button above.

How soon can I schedule a session?

Generally, I have immediate availability. I see clients Monday through Friday, during regular working hours. I also have evening hours (sessions starting at 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm) twice a week.

Do you take my insurance?

I am only able to accept cash, checks, credit cards, or debit cards for therapy services at this time. If you’d like to pursue a superbill option, where you might be able to get reimbursed for therapy from your insurance, I’d be happy to discuss it further with you.

Where are you located?

My office is located within The Durham House, a historic mansion in the Goose Hollow neighborhood at 1012 SW King Avenue, #306, Portland, Oregon, 97205. The office is about three blocks south of W. Burnside Street; two blocks from Providence Park and the MAC; and about five blocks from Washington Park and the Japanese Garden.

Can my partner (or family member) join for the free consultation?

Absolutely. A Zoom video call is easiest, I’ve found, if there are three or more people present. I’ll send you each a link when we schedule the call to join from remote locations.

I don’t live in Portland. Do you see clients online?

Yes. I’m happy to meet with you online, via HIPAA-compliant Zoom video sessions.

I’m not an Oregon resident. Can I still see you?

Sadly, no. I am only licensed to treat residents of Oregon state at this time.

Is your office ADA accessible?

While the office is not ADA accessible, I’m happy to accommodate clients by meeting remotely via video telehealth option.

Do you have a sliding scale for your rates?

I do have a limited number of sliding scale slots (down to $120 for individuals and $140 for couples & families) on my calendar, depending on your needs, which we can discuss further. I’m also happy to provide you with a referral for low-cost therapy if you like.

Do you work with clients in polyamorous and nonmonogamous relationships?

Yes. I have supported many clients as they explore open relationships; ethical nonmonogamy; and polyamorous relationships.

We’re a couple and we’re not sure if we should stay together. Can you help?

Absolutely. In therapy terms, this is called discernment counseling, and I work with clients to help them figure out if this is truly a viable relationship.

Do you treat children?

Generally, I don’t see minors individually. If you’re seeking a family therapist to treat a parent (or parents) with an adolescent child (or children) together in session, I’d be happy to work with you.

I have an unpredictable work schedule, which makes it hard for me to maintain consistent weekly appointments. Can I still seek therapy with you?

Yes. I work with folks in entertainment, health care, education, and other fields with varying schedules. We can discuss how this might work. But generally it’s not a problem.

Can you help us with parenting issues?

Yes. As a trained marriage and family therapist, I work with parents of newborns, toddlers, school age children, adolescents, and young adults. I am happy to help you through the developmental challenges of raising resilient kids.

My partner and I are separating (or moving towards divorce). Can you help us?

Yes. I often work with clients ending a relationship, and I can help you navigate the challenges of an amicable, caring separation—especially where children are involved.

Can you help my partner and I work through infidelity (or substance misuse, addiction, or grief)?

In general terms, yes. I frequently work with clients on especially difficult challenges, ranging from betrayal and infidelity to grief and addiction to separation and divorce. We can discuss your needs further about whether I’m the right fit for you.

Are you a sex therapist?

While I’m not a CST (certified sex therapist), I am trained to help my clients in romantic relationships work through a host of issues around intimacy, desire, emotional connection, and sexuality.

Who are your influences as a therapist?

My influences range across a therapeutic spectrum, but Adam Phillips, Esther Perel, James Hollis, Sue Johnson, Resmaa Menakem, Brené Brown, Bruce Tift, Insoo Kim Berg, Michael White, and Virginia Satir are at the top of my list.
