Working with couples, families, and individual therapy clients is my passion.
About me
For the first twenty years of my career, I was a creative writing professor at universities across the West. Helping students find their voices and tell their stories was a profound privilege that I continue to draw from. After earning advanced degrees in the arts and a doctorate in English, I retrained in couple and family therapy to pursue my long-held goal of working as a systemic therapist.
My two decades of experience working as a teacher and advisor have provided me with rich insight into the unique and varied ways that people show up in the world. Born and raised in Seattle, I have lived in Chicago, Tucson, Bellingham, and Denver, and I’ve worked abroad in Turkey, Italy, Slovakia, Spain, Ireland, and South Africa–all of which gives me a deep appreciation for working with people from a range of cultural backgrounds.
When I’m not seeing clients, I’m an avid reader, a novelist and poet, and am often in the city with my partner and son, exploring Portland’s bookstores, parks, and coffeeshops, or on a road trip combing the Oregon coastline.
I earned my MA in Couple and Family Therapy from Seattle University, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate, licensed to treat clients in Oregon state under the supervision of Meagan Sheehy, LMFT, LPC.
I currently offer both in-person as well as online therapy, depending on your needs.
What to Expect
I provide emotionally-focused therapy for couples, families, and adult individuals. My experience, humor, patience, and insight will help you to identify new plot-lines in your story, reaffirm your sense of purpose, and strengthen bonds between you and your loved ones.
I believe my role as your therapist is to help you remove obstacles to growth and cultivate your strengths in order to realize the life that you hope to live.
What does that mean you can expect?
A strengths-based approach to help you develop a greater capacity to respond to life’s challenges with increased flexibility and resilience.
A warm, engaged presence where we’ll begin to address the hurdles you’re facing with compassion, insight, and humor.
An ability to work with a range of clients, including couples, poly relationships, families, adolescents, and adult individuals.
For each client, I work hard to develop a unique method of collaborative therapy customized to fit your needs.
As a systemic therapist, I work to integrate my training from several therapeutic approaches, including Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT); Gottman Research Methods for couples; and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

Payments
Session fees are due at the beginning of each appointment and are payable by credit card, debit card, cash, or check.
I accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express (including HSA cards).
Please note that although I am not in network with any insurance companies, I may be able to help with out-of-network reimbursement if your insurance policy provides that benefit. In that case, payment is still due at the time of service, but you may be able to submit a “superbill” (an out-of-network claim) to your insurance company for partial reimbursement or other out-of-network benefits.
If this is needed, I recommend contacting your insurance company before scheduling an appointment with me.
